Nutritional Tips

Research shows that if you eat together as a family, it helps children eat less junk food and more fruits and vegetables.

Replace white stuff with the brown stuff…brown rice, whole wheat bread (without corn syrup as an ingredient), whole wheat pasta.

Read the ingredient labels on food packages and choose foods with “whole” in the grain or flour name of the first 3 ingredients.

Add a green vegetable to dinner every night.

Snack right by eating an apple, banana, or strawberries at snack time

Wellness and Prevention Grants are available in St. Joseph Health System California hospital areas. The foundation provides funding for community based non profit organizations and SJHS hospital affiliated programs. Funding is granted to initiatives that proactively address strategies to improve health and quality of life for those who cannot afford to pay for health-related services.

Proposals are reviewed for the following emphasis:
•    Wellness and/or prevention
•    Capacity of persons and groups to become self-sufficient
•    Opportunities for innovative health-related education
•    Collaboration and partnership with existing community initiatives
•    Tangible, measurable outcomes
